Here is a comprehensive list of outdoor books that I would recommend reading. They are both inspirational and engaging and will leave you hanging off a ledge.

Some of these books helped build my love for the outdoors while others taught me lessons and showed me new perspectives.

Most if not all of the following are based on real life events and real people's lives.

  • Intense and eye opening. Zuckerman shows what life is really like for Sherpas and high altitude porters. This book taught me that when it comes down to it, we are all the same. No amount of money will save you when you are on a mountain, it's only your mental stamina that can save you.

  • As a woman myself, reading Kocour’s book showed me that it doesn't matter if you are the only woman in a group of men on the mountain. You are just as strong and fierce as anyone else.

Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home by Heather “Anish” Anderson

The Last Season by Eric Blehm

  • Absolute FAVORITE outdoors book! This book leads the reader through the life of Ranger Randy, telling about his life and his time as a ranger and their search for him and the answers to what went wrong. I grew up semi religious and throughout my life the church and faith has become a big part of my life and who I am. Although this book is not religious by any means, it showed me that church and nature are one and the same. It, in some odd way, allowed me to break down a barrier and find God on the trail.

  • This book taught me to follow my dreams. No matter how unlikely or out there those dreams may be. Life has a way of working itself out. Even when faced with adversity, we will make it through and we will smile wider than we ever thought possible.
